Monotonic crack propagation in a notched polymer matrix composite reinforced with continuous fiber and printed by material extrusion

چکیده

Abstract The study presents the crack mouth opening and propagation of cracks in a composite material printed by extrusion subjected to monotonic loading. is made out nylon matrix (with embedded short carbon fiber—called Onyx ® ) reinforced with continuous Kevlar fibers. Three-point bending tests were performed on notched specimens built according ASTM-E399. Tests digitally recorded extract displacement (COD) length data through image treatment techniques (using ImageJ ), results analyzed using linear elastic fracture mechanics parameters use COD. Therefore, was established, toughness found be 46 MPa√m. Additionally, microscopy analysis identified zones, initiation, transition, final rupture. observed failure mechanisms cracking, fiber pull-out, breakage, defects such as non-proper fiber-matrix bonding.
